FAMILY CAPACITY CENTRE
This program serves children, youth and families in Red Deer and surrounding environs that may qualify for services within the Child & Family Services Authority. Maintaining a systemic framework the considered "client" would be the nuclear family. These families would be seen as under distress based on the problems that the young person is exhibiting and there may be other mental health and substance abuse issues or violence existing within the family. Problems could be seen as developmental as the family transitions through different life stages or more long standing based on unresolved grief, past traumatic influences, and the impact of poverty and violence upon family functioning.
There are five program components of this service that may be accessed in any combination as determined through an initial screening of family needs and resources. They are as follows:
1. Residential Stabilization & Assessment Services
- Provides four beds for youth 11-16 years that would serve as a short-term acute intervention designed to stabilize the young person and to complete a quick assessment of family needs and resources.
- At the completion of a two week stabilization period recommendations would be made regarding the transition of the young person out of the residence and into outpatient services or an alternative placement.
- A comprehensive clinical family assessment and short planning and transition period could entail up to a maximum stay of 60 days.
- This program may also serve as a "step-down" from such intensive services as secure services and/or the hospital, which would allow for a further period dedicated to stabilization, assessment and planning.
- This program may also provide a safe residential intervention for street youth at risk to being involved in the commercial sex trade as described in the PCHIP legislation.

- May also be utilized on "back-end" of more intensive interventions as a means of
re-integrating the young person into the family home.
- Services will be provided for up to six months and includes a 24 hour on-call support to families.
